Haragach Waste Management and Community Awareness Project (HWMCAP)

Teesta Social Welfare Foundation (TSWF), in partnership with Haragach Municipality, is implementing the Haragach Waste Management and Community Awareness Project (HWMCAP) to promote improved waste-management practices, environmental cleanliness, public health and sanitation within Haragach Municipality.
The partnership was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding signed on 14 September 2026. The one-year project will combine municipal waste-collection support with community engagement, school-based education and public-awareness activities.
Key Activities
Community-based awareness sessions on waste management, health, hygiene and sanitation;
School-based awareness programs involving students, teachers and school management committees;
Door-to-door campaigns promoting responsible waste storage and disposal;
Awareness on waste segregation, recycling and the reduction of indiscriminate dumping;
Formation and orientation of community volunteer groups;
Development and distribution of Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials;
Cleanliness campaigns in communities, schools, markets and public places; and
Observance of relevant national and international days related to health, sanitation and the environment.
Under the partnership, Haragach Municipality will provide institutional and logistical support, including office space, a garbage-collection van and two municipal staff members. TSWF will deploy a Project Coordinator and field personnel, organize awareness activities, develop IEC materials and mobilize community volunteers.
The project is funded by Geo-Planning for Advanced Development (GPAD) Ltd. as part of its commitment to corporate social responsibility, sustainable community development and environmental improvement.
Through HWMCAP, TSWF, Haragach Municipality and GPAD Ltd. aim to encourage lasting behavioural change and contribute to building a cleaner, healthier and more environmentally responsible Haragach.
